A Word About "Units" and Keeping Score

Different bettors have different ways of evaluating what constitutes a "unit." Obviously we use the term in order to make the process universal and bet-size agnostic, but how does it work in practice?

For purposes of this blog, we will consider one unit bets on favorites (or any - bet) to be risking 1 unit to win a lesser amount. Any money line bets on underdogs (or any+ money bets) to be risking some lesser amount to win one unit.

For example, if unit size is $100, a bet on a -135 favorite will be risking $100 to win $74.07. A bet on a +150 underdog will risking $66.67 to win $100.

Any one unit bet at standard -110 odds will be risking $100 to win $90.91.
